Making time to capture my family more
I have to share a little of my home life here. In the future there may be a separate place for that, but for now you get to see the faces of my family too. The night before last my husband wasn’t feeling well and went inside when we got home. My son being 1 had some energy to get out. It being cool but nice enough out I let him run around a bit. I don’t like letting sunsets go to waste either and he was already dressed really cute, so we grabbed my camera, a flash, a little chair, and headed to the backyard. Yesterday I tossed them in my computer and did some very minor editing. You can see my fence line isn’t that beautiful but how about that cute little face!
What I love most about photographing babies and toddlers is how raw they are. You can put them in a certain situation to attempt to contain them (like the chair), but you can’t really pose them. I love that. I just sit and wait it out or act silly and they will eventually give me something cute. Even if it isn’t necessarily the mood or face I was after. I love the pouting and crying pictures too! They’re kids, they cry sometimes. I love the silly faces, the mean faces, the “get out of my face with that camera” faces. Those are all keepers.
I have a goal this year of photographing my older children more, but they aren’t always as eager to sit through a photo session with me. They also tend to be gone for the weekend when I have time to get out my camera for personal reasons. I have a goal of including myself more with my family and alone. I’m not where I want to be weight wise and I’m struggling with my hair a bit, but I’ll be thankful someday that I took my picture anyway. If you’re considering bringing your child out for a photo session with me consider getting yourself ready as well. You may just want to jump in there for a few, and you’ll love yourself for it later.
